Folic acid, which is crucial for cell division, is essential for the foetal development and significantly reduces the risk of neural tube defects (NTD).

Folate plays an important role in DNA synthesis. It is involved in cell division and growth processes. Folic acid is therefore essential for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers as it influences the formation of the maternal tissue (placenta), the spine, brain and nerve cells of the embryo, as well as the development of the newborn.

A positive effect is achieved if 400 micrograms of folic acid are taken daily for at least one month before and up to three months after conception.

A sufficient intake of the mineral iodine is extremely important: as a central component of thyroid hormones, it supports their normal production and therefore also the normal function of the thyroid gland.

Iodine also supports the functions of the nervous system and energy metabolism and ensures the maintenance of normal skin.

Vitamin D3 contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function, supports the immune system plays a role in the cell division and participates in the process of insulin secretion.

Vitamin B12 together with folic acid, plays an important role in DNA synthesis, as well as for proper blood cell formation and neurological function. Therefore, it is important during pregnancy to support the growth of the developing fetus.
